~ Llewellyn for Fun ~
Dad often busked along the northeast beaches at Saltburn by the sea, Seaton Carew and especially at Redcar beach where he was the resident Punch and Judy man for a few years in the late 50's early 60's. On sunny weekends he could earn good money from the collection working to the bus trips of children from clubs and factories. The booth at Redcar was fixed and belonged to the council and dad had to pay rent but because he worked permanent nightshift at B.R. he had to sleep in the booth between shows so he could do the full summer season.
As a young lad I served my apprenticeship here helping with the setting up and bottling (collecting the money).
It was 3 pence (old money worth about 1p) to sit inside the flags.
